Recession in Full-Time Jobs

There is a lot of interesting information in the article:

Aside from the usual way the media and government cook the headlines to make the economy seem stronger than it is, I thought this bit of information was really interesting:

“Another concerning aspect of this report is the fact that government jobs make up more than 20 percent of all new jobs. Of the 303,000 new payroll jobs added according to the establishment survey, 71,000 of those were government jobs—or 23 percent. Historically, this ratio suggests an approaching recession since, in times of solid economic growth, government jobs rarely make up more than ten or twelve percent of job growth.”

I.e., more government jobs is a symptom of a less productive economy, which reflects the fact that the government does not produce anything and acts primarily as a drain on the productive aspects of the market economy.

Do what you can to give yourself some cushion for hard times ahead. There are rough roads ahead.
